Spider Vein Removal – Denver

What is laser vein therapy?

The Lyra™ laser is state of the art technology for treating vascular lesions. The lasers light targets the blood in your veins and heat it up causing the vein wall to collapse. The body then breaks down the vein and reabsorbs it during its normal healing process.

What can be treated with the laser?

Small red and pink vessels on the face or legs, deep blue and purple veins on the legs up to 4mm in size. We can also treat Cherry Angiomas and hemangiomas.

How many treatments will it take?

Facial veins 1-3 treatments, leg veins 2-4 treatments and cherry angiomas 1 treatment. The treatments are spaced 10-12 weeks apart. The development of new vessels, of course, cannot be prevented – if this occurs then additional touch-up treatments may be required in years to come.

How long do treatments take for my spider vein removal?

Treatments can take from 5 to 30 minutes or more.  This is dependent on the severity and complexity of the vein clusters.

What do treatments feel like?

We use a chiller and soothing gel to make your legs feel cool and comfortable. As the lasers pulsed light is delivered, you will feel a slight stinging sensation, comparable to a rubber band snapping on your skin. This only lasts for a second. Topical numbing cream can be applied 20-30 minutes prior to the procedure, but most people do not need it.

What should I expect after my spider vein removal treatments in Denver?

Soon after treatment, a red mark resembling a cat scratch may appear in the treatment area and persist for a few days. There may be some swelling of the area and on rare occasions, small skin blistering. Bruising may also occur, but the use of Arnica Gel and ice reduces these side effects. Because the laser is non-invasive, no compression stockings are needed. For leg vein treatments we do not recommend any vigorous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, but mild exercise is fine.  Ideally, ice and elevation of the treated legs would be best on the day of treatment but is not necessary.

When will I see results from my spider vein removal treatment?

Many times the vein disappears as we are treating them. Other vessels turn red or darker gray which is completely normal and may take a few days to a few weeks to disappear as your body absorbs them during the natural healing process.

What are the risks of the treatment?

Laser vein treatment is extremely safe. Bruising can occur and last for a few days to a few weeks depending on the size of vessel treated. The use of Arnica gel can minimize this.  As with any laser treatment, there is a possibility of scarring and pigment change (lightening or darkening of the skin), which can be permanent, although this risk is extremely small.  The use of sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or greater for two weeks prior to treatment and two weeks after treatment will reduce these risks.   Please try to avoid tanning beds, creams or spray tans while undergoing this procedure.

How long do I have to wait in between treatments?

We suggest you wait 8-10 weeks between each laser vein treatment.

Should I shave my legs & What do I wear?

If you don’t mind shaving the area where the veins are present, it makes the laser technician’s job easier.  Also, if you could wear a skort, tennis skirt or exercise shorts that would be most helpful.
